FOR families with emotional problems, music therapy can improve parent-child communication and reduce stress levels. It has been tested by a study from Denmark.
In a small trial, music therapy has a positive effect on both the verbal and nonverbal communication between children who are emotionally neglected and their parents. Parents who participate in music therapy also felt the stress of their children is reduced as a result of this therapy.
"For children who experienced emotional neglect, music therapy can give them an opportunity to be heard and responded to in a safe, fun with the context of a non-threatening," said music therapist, Kate Williams, as quoted from the pages of Fox News on Monday (19 / 1).
Music therapy generally involves therapists, parents and children who play an instrument together, listen to and discuss music or play music. "Being involved in music therapy with a trained therapist will give parents the opportunity to learn new skills in response to complaints of their children," said study leader, Stine Jacobsen.
Tim Jacobsen said the results of the initial study and needs to be repeated with a larger group. Families can also get some benefits without attending formal music therapy sessions. Musical experience shared between parents and children, such as listening to music together, dancing and singing very foster child and parenting skills as well.
Jacobsen recommend starting early this musical bond.
"Singing together or sing to your baby or toddler can be a bonding activity that is very intimate and come naturally to some families. The earlier you start to interact nonverbally with your child, so the earlier you will also find it useful," said Jacobsen.
