Arsenal striker and captain, Robin van Persie was deeplyflattered and surprised to be awarded Player of the football version of the author (FWA).
The Dutch striker version topped the poll of journalists, having previously also received a similar award from his colleagues in a professional footballer Association (PFA).
Van Persie has so far scored 35 goals in all competitions, and is helpful for the Gunners chasing third place - a position that if they can keep the last two games this season, be sure to followArsenal's Champions League next season.
Football Writers' Association (FWA) has given the award since 1948, and Van Persie was honored name equated with great players in the world of English football.
"It makes me very proud to be here. I've seen a list of previouswinners, and for me, never really thought that I would sit here andwin this trophy," he said.
"But even at this season I do not really think to win a trophy for myself. I just played because I loved him, and for Arsenal to finish as high as possible in the league."
"When I learned that I really won it, I was a little surprised, and waslike 'What, me? Really? It makes me very proud to be part ofhistory," added the former Feyenoord striker.
"The journalists know everything about this competition becausethey see every game, analyzing every goal, every movement."
"They know more about you. They do interviews with me and other players, they get a clear picture of who the best player, that's why itmeans so much to the people who voted for me."
